With the aim of breaking the daily routine and adding a touch of cultural diversity to our healthcare centers, at Serhs Food we continue to organize a series of Gastronomic Days every year. These events, planned throughout the year, are designed to celebrate special dates, promote culture, and enhance the experience of healthcare staff and visitors.
This year, we have already successfully held Hawaiian, French, Galician, and Japanese days in several centers such as Hospital de Mataró, Hospital Arnau de Vilanova, and the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO). The events are organized by the cafeterias’ teams in the healthcare centers, with the active collaboration of chefs and dietitians, who select the most iconic dishes from each region or country. In addition to the culinary offering, cafeterias are decorated according to the chosen theme, with representative elements that help create an unbeatable atmosphere for attendees.
A recent example was the Japanese day held at ICO on April 3rd, where attendees could enjoy typical dishes such as ramen, gyozas, yakitori, and the traditional mochis, along with the famous Japanese cheesecake. The kitchen team and cafeteria staff dressed in kimonos and decorated the space with lanterns, flowers, and traditional “noren” curtains, among other elements of Japanese culture, offering an immersive experience that captivated everyone.
On the same day, in Lleida, we held the Galician day, another celebration that stood out thanks to its traditional dishes, such as meat empanada, octopus salad, pork fillet with chestnut sauce, and cod with garlic, among others. Staff wore pilgrim hats, and the cafeteria was decorated to recreate the atmosphere of the “Camino de Santiago”, with the idea of a journey through villages and nature, offering attendees a memorable culinary and cultural experience.

These events, along with previous ones such as the French and Hawaiian days, have been very well received by attendees, who appreciate this initiative that breaks the usual monotony of the hospital setting. These kinds of events not only enhance the experience of healthcare staff and brighten the visits of patients’ loved ones, but also improve the perception of food services in these special settings and allow the discovery of traditional dishes from other places.
For us at Serhs Food, it is an honor to contribute to this cause and continue to offer these gastronomic experiences, which help transform the hospital environment into a warmer and more diverse place. We will continue working to organize new events that further enrich the experience of all attendees.
