Since the start of the coronavirus crisis, the Barcelona City Council has strengthened the set of meal programs by around 30%. The number of meals served in the different programs has increased from 3,700 to 4,800 daily. These programs include different services, meals at home, and meals in company and soup kitchens, which are then served in a tray and consumed at home. SERHS Food collaborates in the production and distribution of cooked dishes for different users. All these services seek to provide a balanced and healthy diet to people who, for different reasons, may have a food deficit.
The Barcelona City Council and SERHS Food maintain a close relationship at these times more than ever by making available the different food options that can be produced from the Mataró High Performance Kitchen. In the same way, it is also being carried out with other City Councils and social entities throughout Catalonia for both old people and children in the case of dining room scholarship menus or special needs.
Home catering has gone from serving 1,200 meals to around 1,550. This service is aimed at people who cannot prepare meals or need help to do so but who are autonomous at mealtime, people who do not have social and / or family support or insufficient to cover the care they need, who have problems with mobility that hinder the use of community resources, or that their homes do not have the necessary conditions for cooking.
Regarding meals in company, a service aimed for elderly people who seek to cover an adequate diet and provide a relational space, they are no longer made in company for the well-known sanitary reasons, but they continue to be served in a lunch box to be consumed in homes. In this case, the municipal Social Services have gone from serving around 1,000 meals to 1,300.
Lastly, the soup kitchens, aimed at people in need and the homeless, have also been reinforced, in some cases with lunch box services, and have gone from serving 1,500 people each day to doing so with around 1,950.
Providing this social service of care and attention to people is very relevant for SERHS Food, since beyond the business objectives, the vision is to continuously work to guarantee the food needs of citizens and their well-being.
